Mark Straver and Robin Wallis, MD’s of Hortus Loci, have chosen world class, multi Award winning landscape architect and good friend Ulf Nordfjell to come up with a landscape design for their rapidly expanding business at Hook in Hampshire.
Nordfjell has worked with Mark Straver many times over the past few years and trusts him to grow and supply the best of the best for not only his Chelsea Flower Show gardens but most recently for the huge Rådhusparken project Umea Sweden for which Ulf is the lead landscape architect.
“I am delighted to have been asked to design the landscape for Hortus Loci and Whitewater Plant Centre at Hook in Hampshire. I have worked with Mark Straver often and currently Hortus Loci are growing around fifteen thousand plants for my project in Umea, the 1st tranche of plants will be delivered May 14. Doing this project for Hortus Loci means I can keep a sneaky eye on my plants!”
“I have created three gold medal winning gardens at Chelsea Flower Show but this is my 1st landscape job in the UK and am very excited at the prospect of helping Mark and Robin fulfil their vision and create a real state of the art nursery with a world class landscape to match” he said.
The Hortus Loci / Whitewater Plant Centre site in Hook, Hampshire consists of 17 acres. Poly tunnels cover 20% percent of the site and a 3 year plan is in place that includes construction of a Croatian style log cabin to house the office, a large Alitex greenhouse will be one of the central features at the entrance to the nursery and plans are also being looked at to create a stylish coffee shop perhaps in one of the stunning old barn buildings. The result will be like no other plant centre in the country and Ulf’s landscape design will be the icing on the cake! The nursery will have the largest available range of trees, perennials, shrubs and other plants, all selected from the most expert and prestigious growers across the UK and Europe.
