Children can come within a mouse’s whisker of a Long-eared Owl, duck as Snowy Owl swoops overhead and don a falconer’s gauntlet to hold a beautiful Barn Owl in the Half Term holidays at the Hawk Conservancy Trust. There are more than 150 birds of prey to be seen at the Trust, from Little Owls and Great Grey Owls to Peregrine Falcons, Bald Eagles and the magnificent Steller’s Sea Eagles. Many of them take part in the three flying demonstrations each day: ‘World of Birds of Prey’, the spectacular ‘Valley of the Eagles’ and ‘Woodland Owls and Hawks’.
There are daily Heron and Red Kite feeds and a Vulture Restaurant showing vultures at their scavenging best. Other Half Term holiday activities include tractor rides, Runner Duck racing and a Raptor Passport Trail. After watching the world-class bird of prey flying demonstrations, seeing the rescue and rehabilitation work of the National Bird of Prey Hospital and exploring the 22 acres of wildflower meadow and woodland, wildlife explorers can refuel in Feathers Restaurant with warming, homemade refreshments. Every visitor has the opportunity to hold a bird of prey and to meet some of the Trust’s falconers.
