Discover what goes on behind the scenes of a busy artists’ studios at The Sorting Office Summer Open Studios.
Taking place over two days, Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, Summer Open Studios is a rare opportunity to meet The Sorting Office’s 16 artists and designer-makers in their workspace, chat with them, watch them at work, take part in workshops and, of course, shop for exquisite handcrafted goods and designs.
The event is the perfect family-friendly event.
Source unusual, one-of-a-kind gifts and products made by each of the gifted artists from unique home furnishings, commissioned art work and one-off jewellery pieces to bespoke gowns, quirky glassware and individual ceramics there is something for everyone – even the most discerning of shopper.
Always wanted to try out something creative? As part of the Summer Open Studios artist Andy Reany will run a drop-in Beginners Screen Printing Workshop on Saturday, June 14, from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. Aimed at the complete novice, and open to all ages, the workshop is an introduction to the wonderful world of screenprinting. Using bespoke templates created by two of The Sorting Office artists: Textile Artist Claire Vine and Pattern Designer Mariska Parent learn how to print onto a canvas tote bag. And once you’re done, you can take it home, too.
Illustrator Lisa-Jean Gardner will also be running a workshop for children, encouraging them to get messy with paints while creating colourful scales for her rather large fire-breathing friend!
And, if that’s not enough to tempt you, on both days there will be demonstrations by a number of the artists showcasing their varied skills and talents, plus the opportunity to sign-up for forthcoming workshops.
The Sorting Office Open Studios: Saturday, June 13, from 11am to 5pm and Sunday, June 14, from 11am to 2pm. Entry is free. Please note there is a £5 charge for the Beginners Screen Printing workshop.
